Can you share how you first got involved with The LC?

I got involved with LC through working with United Way of RI. The LC was in my portfolio of grantees. There were some interesting challenges happening and LC handled them with professionalism and grace and welcomed me with open arms regardless of what the outcome would be. It was definitely a great first impression and really highlighted the integrity of the administration and staff. Walking through the school and being invited into classrooms, seeing smiling happy faces, and engagement - it was just such an easy "yes" to become more involved and advocate for such a safe and fun place for learning.

What do you tell people about the school?

I tell people that the LC is the best place for learning because they use a whole student approach with a multigenerational strategy. This is because of leadership’s experience in the out-of-school time learning space where professionals learn that a child is whole and has various needs. The LC meets the needs of all students to the best of its ability - this is not seen at other institutions of learning. Making sure a student if fed and their family is fed is critical to learning - the LC has captured that in an authentic way.

Why do you support/invest here?

I support the LC for all the reasons listed above - the humility of staff, the love that is felt for each student and their families, and Derek (GO PATS!!!). All jokes aside - the LC never backs away from constructive criticism and always makes room for improvement. Being in a mode where you can be flexible, change, and adapt is critical for any organization - centering equity and inclusion while you do those things is why I say "yes" to investing in the LC and supporting it the best way I can.
