Janelle Conroy
KINDERGARTEN (KFA)
Janelle Conroy has been a kindergarten teacher at The Learning Community since 2005. She grew up surrounded by government, politics, and diverse cultures in her hometown of Arlington, Virginia. Janelle holds M.A.T. and M. Ed. degrees from American University and Rhode Island College in education and a B.A. in Russian and Sociology from the College of the Holy Cross. Janelle is certified as an English as a Second Language teacher and is passionate about building language and a love of learning in her classroom. In her free time, she enjoys spending time out in nature exploring Rhode Island with her husband and two children.

Amy Merola
KINDERGARTEN (KFB)
Amy graduated from Anna Maria College with her B.A in Early and Elementary Education in 2004. She then went on to complete and receive a Masters in Education at Providence College in 2011. Amy has worked in many diverse educational settings throughout Rhode Island. Previously, Amy worked in Early Intervention for Hasbro Children's Hospital and then with Meeting Street School for a total of 7 years. She then went on to teach State Pre-K in Pawtucket for six years. For the past three years, Amy has worked for the Providence School Department as a teacher in Kindergarten and First Grade. She was raised by immigrant parents from Portugal in Pawtucket, R.I. Amy enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, and cheering on both of her sons at all their sporting events.

Laurie Sena
KINDERGARTEN (KFC)
Laurie is committed to every student. She says, “As an elementary student, some teachers made me feel inferior. I vowed that when I grew up, I would make a difference. I became a teacher so that I could give each student the tools to become a successful adult. All children can learn and succeed. I want to empower each student to dream and to believe in themselves. I want them to shine!” Laurie taught for four years in Providence and Pawtucket. She enjoys kickboxing, skating, reading and spending time with her family. She received a degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Rhode Island.

Barbara deJesus
TEACHING PARTNER (KFA)
Barbara is a founding member of LC. I've been a teacher partner for 18+ years. I was born in the Dominican Republic. I'm married to Angel de Jesus. We have 3 handsome young men and 2 beautiful grandchildren. My faith is my strength. I'm very involved in my ministry of miming. I love to cook and dance.

Maribel Morales
TEACHING PARTNER (KFB)
Maribel graduated from Rhode Island College in 2014 with her Bachelor's in English. She previously worked as the Coordinator of the Afterschool Program from 2015-2020 at the Learning Community. She Came from Guatemala as a child and was raised by immigrant parents from Guatemala, she has grown up most of her life in the community of Central Falls. Maribel enjoys cooking, staying active, listening to music, and dancing as well as spending time with her husband and daughters.

Jazlynn Henao Zapata
TEACHING PARTNER (KFC)
Jazlynn graduated from Blackstone Valley Prep Highschool June of 2021 and is currently enrolled at Community College of Rhode Island for general studies. She previously worked at Edible Arrangements in Providence as a fruit expert, as well as Journeys as a sales associate. Jazlynn has been raised in Pawtucket all her life but found her community in Central Falls. Jazlynn is the daughter of 2 parents who immigrated from Colombia over 25 years ago. She is the youngest of 3 sisters and a brother and is proud to be an aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is passionate about expression through art, writing, and music, and she holds community, culture, and family very close to her heart. Jazlynn loves traveling!
