  • Meg O'Leary

    HEAD OF SCHOOL

    Meg was director of the Olneyville Community-Schools Initiative and has extensive experience working with schools and community-based organizations. Meg directed Teaching for Tomorrow, an innovative professional development program with the Providence public schools and was director of the SCOPE initiative in Central Falls. She believes that children from every economic and cultural background deserve an excellent education and that professional development schools are one way to achieve high quality. Meg holds a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Rhode Island.

  • Abi Luger

    DEPUTY HEAD OF SCHOOL

    Abi graduated from Roger Williams University with her B.A. with a double major in Elementary Education and Theater. She then went on to get her M.S. in the Teaching of Reading and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at St. John’s University in Literacy with a focus on TESOL. She previously worked as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and school administrator, as well as working as an adjunct instructor at a local college in teacher preparation programs. Abi is the parent of a teen and preteen. In her free time, she enjoys reading and traveling with her family!

  • María Duque

    ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER

    María, a native of Colombia, graduated from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín, Colombia with her degree in Education Science. María served as the Executive Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of the Central Falls Public Schools. She also spent over six years as the assistant to the Executive Director of Progreso Latino in Central Falls. María is the proud mother of Jorge Londoño. Her family is the most important for her.

  • Cecilia Melito

    MIDDLE SCHOOL DIRECTOR

    Cecilia graduated from The George Washington University with a BBA in Business Administration in 2012. Upon graduation, she taught High School Mathematics through Teach for America in Atlanta, GA. Cecilia then went on to work as a strategy consultant for a consulting firm and a program manager for a non-profit, Year Up, before attending Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2020 where she received her M.Ed. in School Leadership. Cecilia's first job as a school leader was as the Director of Instruction and Scholar Success at Phoenix Charter Academy in Chelsea, MA. Before joining The Learning Community, Cecilia spent a year living in Mexico City with her fiance where she became proficient in Spanish! Cecilia currently lives in Providence, RI but is originally from Bristol, RI where her family still resides. In her free time, Cecilia loves traveling, reading, trying new foods, and spending time with her family and friends.

  • Zainab Giwa

    DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

    Zee is a highly accomplished service-driven professional from Providence, RI with a B.A. in Business Economics from Eastern Connecticut State University. She possesses a wealth of expertise in partnership development, strategic planning, and project management within companies such as City Year Providence, NeighborWorks America, and the City of Providence. In her spare time, she enjoys writing poetry, cooking, hosting, and experimenting with interior design. She is also a proud aunt to her two nieces and nephew: Aurianna, Ethel Rose, and Maxon.

  • Winnie Van Horne-Prior

    DIRECTOR OF ELEMENTARY GRADES

    Winnie was born in St. Croix, USVI and grew up mostly in New York and Connecticut. She has an MAT in teaching from Brown University, an MFA in writing from Sarah Lawrence College, and a BA in English literature from the University of Connecticut. She also has both her Building Administrator and ESOL certifications. She spent 24 years working for Providence Public Schools in different roles, most recently as Supervisor of Reading K-12. Winnie believes our COMMUNITY is our POWER; together we can achieve anything and have fun while doing it. She loves warm sunny days, reading, and exercising with friends. She lives in Pawtuxet Village with her husband, 2 sons, 2 cats, 1 dog, and 1 free-range tortoise named Sebastian.

  • Dana Nolan

    DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

    Dana previously worked as VP of Development for Sojourner House, and for many years as the National Director of Organizational Partnerships for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She comes to The Learning Community with expertise and experience in building relationships with community and corporate leaders, board members, donors, foundations, and families. She has a passion for mission-focused development work that positively and measurably impacts the community. After graduating from Union College with a BA in Classics and Philosophy, Dana went on to receive her Master's in Public Administration from URI. As an adjunct faculty member in the English Department at CCRI since 2010, Dana deeply connects with the approach of The Learning Community that teaches the value and power in using language, conversation, and voice to effect change. She lives in Cranston with her sons, rescue pups Gigi and Elvis, and a very cranky cat named Toulouse. Dana loves summer, reading, The Boston Bruins, and spending time with loved ones.

  • Michelle Grimaldi

    DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL LEARNING

    Michelle began her career in education in 2009 as a high school special educator. Since that time, she has been committed to designing and managing school programs tailored to meet the social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs of all children. Prior to coming to The Learning Community, Michelle served as the principal of a K-12 therapeutic day school. Michelle holds a B.A. in English, M.A. in Forensic Psychology, and C.A.G.S. in Elementary & Secondary Educational Leadership. In her free time, Michelle enjoys spending time outside with her son, dog, and husband.

  • Mindy Farrow

    DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION

    Mindy graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a degree in Business Administration. She previously worked in Operations and Marketing in the software services industry. She was raised in Lexington, Massachusetts with her two older brothers. Mindy currently resides in Massachusetts with her husband and two children. She enjoys traveling, cooking, exercising, and spending time with family and friends.

  • Tiffany Barry

    DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

    Tiffany graduated from Rhode Island College in 2010 with her B.S. in Elementary and Special Education. Following her first year teaching Kindergarten in RI, Tiffany moved to Cary, North Carolina to continue her teaching career, teaching and coordinating Special Education programs in Wake County Public Schools (the 14th largest school district in the US with 198 schools!) from 2012-2021. She also worked as an Implementation Consultant in the Corporate Technology world for 2 years, before returning to Education in 2023. Tiffany was born and raised in Providence, and graduated from Classical High School in 2004 (Go Purple!). After living in North Carolina for 11 years, she moved back home to Rhode Island and now resides in Providence with her boyfriend and 2 daughters. Tiffany is always looking for an excuse to travel, explore, or find a fun weekend getaway with family, chasing sunshine and warm temps! She also is an avid sports fan, and loves playing and watching basketball in her free time. Most importantly, engaging in children’s growth and development brings her the utmost joy and is her true passion in this world.

    Kate Hanson

    DIRECTOR OF AFTER SCHOOL

    Kate graduated from Emerson College in 2014 with her B.S. in Communication Studies and minors in Psychology and Leadership & Management. As a Pawtucket, Rhode Island native, Kate has spent the last decade dedicated to working in RI communities focusing on youth development and mentorship, community connection, and theatre education. Kate enjoys crafting, looking for treasures at the thrift store, eating yummy foods, and spending time with her cat and husband.

  • Guillermo Lopez

    DIRECTOR OF IT SYSTEMS

    Guillermo has over 10 years of experience in the IT services industry. Guillermo grew up in the West End of Providence and continues to live there. He is an active supporter of the local arts organizations and social justice programs that continue to transform the city of Providence. Guillermo is a hobbyist photographer who can take a mean selfie and cool cat pictures. It’s been rumored that he has a meme collection that’s taken up all his phone storage.

  • Jeremy Giller

    DIRECTOR OF DATA & INFORMATION SYSTEMS

    Jeremy joined The Learning Community in 2008. Before taking on his current role, in which he advances the school's work through data and information analysis and data systems development, Jeremy was the school’s first director of development and then director of foundation relations. Previously, Jeremy worked at a communications and strategy consulting firm in Providence serving clients in education, healthcare, and public policy; was executive director of the HELP Lead Safe Center in Providence; and was a policy analyst and freelance writer. He is a graduate of Brown University. Jeremy enjoys cooking, photography, and spending time with his wife and three kids in and around Providence.
